RADIO COLLARS

In partnership with CENAP (National Research Center for Carnivores Conservation) certain Jaguars are fitted with a GPS, VHF and satellite transmission collars in order to better understand their behaviour, social interactions and territories. Despite being the third largest cat in the world, only smaller than Tigers and Lions respectively, the Jaguar is the least studied big cat in the world.

It is important to mention that the collars not interfere in Jaguar natural behaviour or cause harm to the individuals who wear them and are pre-programmed to fall off automatically after a period of time; to illustrate this point, three female Jaguars that have been fitted with collars during the project have already given birth and have managed to successfully raise their cubs.
